Why do I have to pay for parking?

The parking program at UCF is totally self-supporting. Your purchase of a parking permit enables UCF to build and maintain parking lots and parking garages, to purchase supplies, to post signs and myriad other items that make the parking program successful. Monies received from the sale of parking permits and parking citation payments also fund the parking enforcement program. Enforcement of the parking rules and regulations ensures that everyone has a fair and equitable opportunity to park on campus.

What are the differences in permit fees at UCF compared to other schools?

Parking permit fees at UCF compare favorably with those of other universities within the Florida State University System. Each university has different needs and requirements for parking; therefore the fee structure for each university is individually based.

Why aren't the sand lots paved?

More often than not, the sand/dirt lots are temporary lots with the expectation that at some future date a permanent structure of some form will be built on the lot. In some cases, it could be a paved parking lot. However, money (or lack thereof) is always a factor. Paving one surface lot space can cost approximately $2,000 per space while one parking space in a parking garage can cost between $6,000 and $10,000 per space. Yes, the garage spaces cost much more, but available land space is limited.

I don't want to stick the decal on my new car. Is it OK if I tape my decal to my car?

No. Your decal is considered valid only if it is permanently affixed with its own adhesive backing. The decal must be affixed to the driver's side of the rear bumper or rear window. If your decal isn't permanently affixed, you will be ticketed for Improper Display of Decal. An option to consider is purchasing a hang tag. Hang tags do cost a bit more but are transferable to any car you want to use.

What if my registered car breaks down and I need to use another car?

If this happens, you should stop by the Visitor's Information Center or the Parking Services Office and obtain a temporary permit for your substitute vehicle. These permits can be issued for up to two weeks at a time, are free of charge, and allow you to park in your regular area. You are allowed six temporary permits per semester, if you have already purchased a current valid decal for that semester. If you don't take the time to get a temporary permit, you will be responsible for any parking citations you might receive as a result.

The Visitor's Information Center is open Monday through Friday 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and on Saturday 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The Visitor's Information Center is located at the intersection of Central Florida Boulevard and Andromeda Drive.

How do I purchase a parking permit?

Everyone must register their vehicle online at www.parking.ucf.edu. Permits may be paid for online using a credit card or payment may be made at the Parking and Transportation Services Office with credit card, cash, or check. During peak periods one may select the option to have their permit mailed to them. Parking permits may also be picked up in person at the Parking and Transportation Services Office located in Parking Garage B.

The hours of operation are Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Extended hours of operation may be available during the registration period and the first week of classes. Check the website listed above for any additional hours of operation.

I drive more than one vehicle to campus. Do I have to register all of them?

There are some options. Parking decals are designed to be attached to one specific vehicle and you may purchase a decal for each vehicle. Hand tags are designed to be transferred from one vehicle to another. Hand tags do cost a bit more per permit, but they are less expesive than purchasing a permit for each vehicle. Additionally, if you drive one vehicle on a regular basis and only on occasion must drive a different one; you can obtain a temporary permit at no cost. Temporary permits may be obtained at the Visitor Information Center, or the Parking and Transportation Services Office.

HELP! There's no place to park.

Parking can be a pain in the driver's seat during the beginning of each semester; however, there are over 15,000 legal spaces on the campus. These spaces are located throughout the campus in 5 parking structures and many surface parking lots. Unfortunately, not every space is close to every building. Plan accordingly. Arrive early, park in the outer lots and take advantage of the UCF Black and Gold Line on-campus shuttles. The shuttles go around the campus about every 30 minutes and you can easily get from on place to another in a short period of time. The shuttles are air-conditioned, and the ride is free.

There are also parking spaces located off-site in the Research Park, with free UCF shuttles making the trip to campus about every 30 minutes. This is a good option to avoid frustration. Shuttles that stop in the Research Park lots, drop off passengers in parking lot C-3 (near the Health Services Building).

I got a parking ticket, What now?

Anyone who believes they have been unjustly ticketed must file a formal appeal online @ www.parking.ucf.edu. within seven (7) working days from the date of the parking citation. Appeals may be submitted as a written appeal, or one may elect to be scheduled for a personal appeal. If a personal appeal is scheduled and the appellant does not attend the hearing, the parking citation is upheld and payable immediately, to include any late fees. Appellants will be notified of the Appeal Committee's decision by email. We are not responsible for emails that are incorrect or not read. Complete instructions may be found at the Parking and Transportation Services website, www.parking.ucf.edu.

What if I don't pay my campus parking citations?

Parking citations not paid or appealed within seven (7) working days will accumulate a $10 late fee. After seven (7) working days you may receive an email advising you of the unpaid status of the citation, and a hold will be placed on future class registrations, grades, and transcripts.

Should you have three or more overdue parking citations, your vehicle is subject to being immobilized. Once a vehicle is immobilized all outstanding parking citations and a $50 immobilization removal fee must be paid before the vehicle can be released. If arrangements have not been made for release within 48 hours, the vehicle is subject to being towed from the campus at the vehicle owner's expense.

To avoid these actions, you are encouraged to pay your citations on time. Parking citations may be paid online at www.parking.ucf.edu., by mail, in one of the drop boxes located on campus, or in person at the Parking and Transportatioin Services Office.

What happens if I purchase a new vehicle after I've bought my decal?

When you purchase a new vehicle, if the permit is a sticker, remove the sticker. These come off fairly easy using a razor blade. Retain enough of the permit so that the permit number or bar code is identifiable. We need to see that the permit you are returning belongs to you. Once that is done, you will be issued a replacement permit for a fee of $10. If in the excitement of getting a new car you forget to remove the permit, we will need to see trade-in paperwork and/or a transfer of license tag. If neither of the stated actions is accomplised, the fee for a replacement permit is the full permit fee in effect at the time of the replacement.

If you are issued a temporary license tag, we can issue you a new permit, with the temporary number. We just ask that you inform us of the new license tag number once it is received. We will then correct the information in our database.

May I park in a space that is marked "RESERVED 24 HOURS" for a short period of time or on the weekend?
